Mercedes-Benz continúa con la llegada de los nuevos modelos, presentando esta vez un Clase R fabricado en la planta de Tuscaloosa (Estados Unidos) y destinado principalmente a las necesidades del segmento de ese país, entre los máximos cultores del monovolumen. Fue en estas tierras que se lanzó por primera vez y al día de hoy es donde recibirá su primera modificación.
Cómo suele suceder, tanto el plano mecánico como el estético han sido blanco de los esfuerzos. En el primer apartado, salta a la vista la eficiencia ganada en los motores Diesel, retocados para ajustarse a la Euro5: el 3.0 V6 CDI (190 CV) mantendrá su potencia con 7% menos de emisiones y 7.6 litros cada 100 Km, mientras que el 3.5 V6 CDI 4Matic aumentará a 265 CV de potencia y reducirá su consumo a 8.5 litros cada 100 Km (0.8 litros menos).
El motor 3.0 V6 CDI BlueTEC 4Matic, capaz de depurar gases de escape, mantiene la potencia en 211 CV y pasa de consumir 8.7 litros a 8.4 litros cada 100 Km. Los motores a gasolina se mantendrán tal cual la versión original: 3.0 V6 (231 CV), 3.5 litros V6 (272 CV, 4Matic) y 5.5 litros (388 CV, 4Matic).
Finalmente, comentando un poco las reformas de diseño, podemos decir que nos encontramos con una nueva parrilla delantera, molduras modificadas, faros nuevos (acordes al resto de la gama Mercedes-Benz), paragolpes reformado y un escape también renovado. Las llantas también tienen un nuevo diseño y los espejos retrovisores aumentaron su cantidad de detalles.
